What happens at your routine check-up in Wokingham?

Visit your dentist every 6 to 12 months for a routine check-up to help keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Regular visits allow potential problems to be identified and treated quickly and easily.

Examination

Your dentist will ensure you are comfortable before examining your teeth and gums.

You can discuss any concerns you may have. X-rays may be taken if closer investigation is needed.

Hygiene Advice

Your teeth may receive a brief clean during your visit.

If required, you may be referred to a hygienist for a deeper clean to remove stains caused by food, drink, or smoking.

I had my first visit with Dr Leo and he was fantastic at listening and reassuring me on the prep needed before my Invisalign journey can begin, which I can not wait to start.

I then saw Gemma and manisha for my first hygiene appointment and WOW, I left feeling in love with my teeth again, I walked in anxious and embarrassed and left over the moon. Gemma was so informative, calm and caring and she really made me feel confident with my smile again, it was the boost I needed to love my smile and be ready to fix the final stages.

As a nervous client due to previous bad experiences I was so apprehensive about taking the leap at smile rooms. But having been reassured by the amazing reception staff, I went along feeling a little more relaxed, although still nervous. But I can honestly say having been three times now, my fear has completely gone. All staff are amazing, understanding of individual needs, very calming, reassuring, and so very professional with the added extra of going that extra mile to explain everything in a wonderful friendly manor. Treatment was virtually painless, with the dentist taking great care with all aspects of the treatment that I was having. Each visit has left me even more confident to return for follow ups. Dr Pritesh, Catherine and the team at Smile Rooms Wokingham are truly outstanding in all respects. They are professional, welcoming, caring and considerate and from the moment I walked in to the reception area I knew I was in safe hands. I wanted to correct my teeth but wasn’t sure what would be the best option and Dr Pritesh took the time to discuss all the options in a clear and unpressured way.
I had composite bonding and the end result is incredible, my teeth look perfect but in a completely natural way. Dr Pritesh is talented and skilled and really works hard to make sure that you get your own individually perfect smile.
Every other member of staff from the reception team , the dental assistants, patient co-ordinator and hygienist have the same caring, friendly and welcoming manner.

For years I had put off having a smile makeover as I was worried about being judged for the state of my teeth. I decided to go for a free consultation at Smile Wokingham and from the moment I stepped through the door, it’s been such an amazing experience. Dr Sanj is a genius and the best at what he does but alongside that, he is such a nice guy that you feel like you are talking to a friend.

The idea I had was to get a smile makeover and to do it as quickly as possible. Dr Sanj advised against that I am so happy I followed his advice and trusted the whole process. My teeth now look better for it.

Catherine was a delight to deal with, I have a very busy schedule with work and family and she was always very accommodating when organising appointments. Several times I had to cancel or rearrange an appointment and it was never an issue.

The girls on reception are also so lovely, numerous times I would be late for an appointment and they would always be understanding.

Overall my experience at Smile Rooms Wokingham was 10/10, could not fault it at all.

What is tooth decay?

It is estimated that around 1 in 3 adults in the UK have tooth decay.

Tooth decay is when acids in your mouth dissolve the outer layers of your teeth.

The acids are formed by the bacteria in your mouth combining with small particles of food (particularly carbohydrates found in sugary food and drinks) and saliva to form a sticky film (plaque).

If the plaque is allowed to build up, the acid begins to break down the outer surface of the tooth.

Eventually this can enter and cause damage to the soft matter at the centre of the tooth.

What are the symptoms of tooth decay?

Tooth decay may not show any visible symptoms until it has reached an advanced stage. The symptoms of tooth decay include:

How is tooth decay treated?

FIRST STEP

In the early stages of tooth decay our dentist may apply a protective fluoride varnish to help stop further decay.

Second Step

For later stages of tooth decay, depending on how advanced the issue is you may require a filling.

If the decay has travelled into the soft matter of your tooth, you may need root canal treatment.

Last step

In severe cases where the tooth cannot be restored it may need to be removed.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment is used to treat infection at the centre of the tooth, treating this is also known as endodontics.

The aim of the treatment is to avoid extracting the tooth, and in most cases is successful in preventing this.

The infection in the tooth is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth and then enter the tooth.

The infection can be caused by damage to the tooth or trauma, such as after a fall or by advanced tooth decay.

What is the procedure for root canal treatment?

FIRST STEP

After numbing the area, the tooth needs to be cleaned by the endodontist and the infected soft tissue inside the tooth is gently removed.

Second Step

The tooth is then packed with a biocompatible material.

Last step

Following the root canal treatment, a filling or crown is placed on the tooth to restore the functionality and protect the tooth.

When is a tooth extracted?

A tooth extraction is a fairly common procedure in dentistry. A tooth may need to be extracted for a variety of reasons. The most common reasons are:

  • The tooth is unrestorable through tooth decay, trauma or periodontal disease.
  • Wisdom teeth may need extracting if they are impacted (stuck and unable to grow normally into the mouth) and therefore may cause recurrent infections in the mouth.
  • In orthodontics to help create space for the other teeth to be moved into straighter positions.

Tooth extractions can be done in a single appointment, with a follow up appointment for more complex cases. Our dentist will be able to advise you on the best options for your situation.

What is a dental filling?

A dental filling is used to restore a tooth damaged by decay to a more normal function and shape.

The process involves removing the decayed tooth material, cleaning the affected area and then filling out the cavity with a dental filling material such as porcelain or a tooth coloured resin (composite).

Amalgam (silver coloured) fillings can be offered; however, by nature they are visible and many people choose to replace these for a more natural looking filling.

The advantage of a dental filling is that it helps prevent further decay, and consequently more complex treatments.
